Pastor JAMES SPENCER
(OVERSEER)

Pastor James Spencer, who hails from Chantilly in Manchester, Jamaica, W.I., migrated to Kingston after leaving home at an early age. It was during his youthful expedition that he was introduced to the Church where he later accepted Christ and has since been very active. There was no doubt then, that this deep interest was what inspired him to have taken a number of Bible/Theological Courses.

In addition to his keen interest in Church activities, he also became an educator, after being trained at The Mico Teachers’ College, and further obtaining a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of the West Indies. Thereafter, he served as classroom teacher, and School Principal, before assuming the role of Education Officer with responsibility for Teacher training and school supervision. He further assumed the role of Senior Education Officer in the Ministry of Education, with Regional responsibility for Primary Education and acted as Regional Director on a number of occasions.  Despite these responsibilities, he actively served the church.

In earlier years he served as President of the Young Peoples’ League, and Adult Advisor, and later, as Evangelist, Conference President, Board Member, Executive Member, Coordinator of Bible Study Literature, Chorister, Choir Director, Musician, Marriage Officer and Pastor of an Assembly. He also shared in many evangelistic activities, which included foreign travels. In 2005, at the passing of the first Overseer – late Pastor. H.J. Waugh, he assumed the position of Overseer, along with a close Associate, Pastor L. J. Peart (now deceased) as Deputy.

Pastor Spencer’s highest ambition is to motivate Believers to pursue the Church’s great Mission of leading others to Christ and to strive for a higher level of commitment and service to God, while also helping to satisfy other needs of Believers.

Among his personal passions/hobbies, are music, singing, drama, travels (much of which he did in earlier years and still continues to enjoy).  He is married to a very wonderful, supportive lady – Evangelist Eunice Spencer and is blessed with an ambitious and supportive son, a wonderful daughter-in-law and two lovely grand- children, who all engage in the Church’s fellowship.  He also considers himself ‘Blessed’ with a number of committed Believers who keep him in constant prayer.

Pastor GERSHOM BAXTER
(DEPUTY OVERSEER)

Gershom Baxter was ‘born in the church’ as his parents were already members when he was born. His involvement in the activities of the church started in his early teens when he began playing the guitar in services. This he did for several years at the church’s headquarters and various branches until he was appointed a Challenger and thereafter an Evangelist.

In 1998, he was ordained a Pastor with responsibility for the Point Hill Assembly. He subsequently assumed responsibility for a cluster of Churches in the parish of St Catherine in Jamaica.

Over the years, Pastor Baxter has served in several areas in the church including Vice President of Conference and member of the General Executive. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors, President of Conference, and Deputy Overseer. Pastor Baxter is also a Marriage Officer of the Island of Jamaica.

Pastor Baxter is married to Evangelist Verna Andrea Baxter and they have one daughter, Ashleigh.

Pastor ANDREW SPENCER
(ASSISTANT OVERSEER)

Andrew Spencer can be described as the quintessential “church baby” who was brought directly from the hospital to be blessed in the Seventh Day Church of God (Reformed) at 20 East Road in 1980. While not a normal practice, this was obedience by his parents James and Eunice, who were so instructed by the Lord through his manservant Pastor H. J. Waugh. He has spent his life serving in the music ministry from a child and was baptized in June 1996 at the age of 16. He was appointed as an Evangelist in 2009 where he served for 14 years before being ordained Pastor in 2023. In 2025 he assumed the role of Assistant Overseer for “Programmes and Administration”. Many new initiatives have been born, as he has been surrounded with very motivated and committed teams. He serves as a director on the board of the church and as a Justice of the Peace.

Pastor Andrew Spencer always had a passion for excellence and in his professional life has served as Chief Executive Officer of the Tourism Product Development Company Ltd. (TPDCo.) in 2017, full Professor at the University of the West Indies in 2021, President of the Caribbean Maritime University in 2022, and has held board chairmanships for the National Insurance Fund and the National Education Trust. He was awarded the Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD) in 2024 by the Governor General of Jamaica.

He has been happily married since August 5, 2007 to Diana, a Deaconess in the church, with whom he has two lovely children Rebekah and Josiah. His daily efforts are towards submission to the authority of Colossians 1:16 “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him”.

He embarked on his spiritual journey as a teenager, accepting Christ and being baptized in 1988. Gary’s ministerial path progressed through ordination as a Deacon, an Evangelist, as Pastor of the church in Waterford, and then as Assistant Overseer with responsibility for Ministry and Evangelism.

With a passion for teaching, Gary has spent nearly 20 years educating students across several schools in St. Catherine, Manchester, and St. Mary, holding various roles in the classroom and administrative positions within middle and senior management. His academic background includes teacher training at The Mico Teachers’ College, as well as graduate and postgraduate studies focusing on Educational Administration and Leadership.
