Youth Oversight Council

The Seventh Day Church of God (Reformed) through a restructuring exercise of the Youth Fellowship established the Youth Oversight Council (YOC) effective January 1, 2024 as a mechanism for good order.

This body which reports to the Overseer, comprises a Chairman, two (2) Deputy Chairs and six (6) Directors, who supports the Chair with overall guidance, planning and execution of programmes and activities at the church-wide level – inclusive of all branches.

The branches of the church have been divided into eight (8) clusters, with each cluster being headed by a Divisional Leader, who is usually localized to the region for which they have supervision. Each local church has a Youth President who reports into the Divisional Leader. The upper age limit for the Fellowship is 45 years, with the exception of the YOC Leaders and Divisional Leaders. The upper limit of 45 years also applies to Youth Fellowship leadership and membership at the local level.

The Evangelism and Discipleship portfolio is concerned firstly with ensuring that the young believers of the Church live and practise the principles laid down by Jesus Christ; secondly with guiding them to demonstrate a more crucial aspect of this discipleship mandated by Christ in Matthew 28:19. In so doing the initiatives will be primarily guided by the DID principle : Denial of self, Intentionally keeping spiritual goals in mind, Dedicating oneself to yield to the divine will of God.

The Mentorship Portfolio being cognizant of the positive impact mentorship can have on the young, is committed to establishing and maintaining mentorship initiatives to assist the members in their spiritual and personal growth, community unity, and the formation of upcoming leaders. These initiatives assist in grooming individuals to be well-rounded and equipped with skills that enable them to assume various roles within the church and broader society.

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT AND THE WORD

The Spiritual Development & the Word portfolio is concerned with teaching scriptural truths towards creating a greater understanding of the Word of God. The Apostle Peter in 2 Peter 3:17-18 encourages us to “grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” in order to resist the error of the wicked and remain steadfast.  Essential to our physical growth is what we feed on.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP

The Professional Development and Leadership portfolio is committed to assisting the members of the Youth Fellowship in honing critical skills for leadership as well as to provide guidance in advancing their professional development; through creating access to vital resources necessary to enable the achievement of professional goals.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

The Social Development portfolio is committed to fostering a positive and inclusive environment for our young members on their journey of personal (social and emotional) growth. Social development plays a crucial role in personal well-being and contributes to the overall health of communities and societies.
