The Sunbury Assembly located in Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies, was established after the word of the Lord came to His servant Pastor Waugh at a Ministers’ Retreat in January 1994, that there was a call for the district of Spalding to be evangelized.
A Street meeting was held in the town square shortly after, and very soon, a man wrote to say that he got healing the night of the meeting. As a result, a team went in search of that man, and when he was found, he declared that he dreamt the previous night (Sabbath night) “that police dressed in white were searching for him”. We were convinced that this was, indeed, the work of the Lord as the uniform of the sisters is white.
The work progressed as the group worshipped in the home of Sister Perkins who had moved to the area. After a few months, the group had to leave the house but not being deterred, they sought and obtained permission to worship in the market at Spalding, which they did for a short time.
The next move was to, upon permission by the School Board, hold services in the Primary School in the area. This was also short-lived as the group was given notice to vacate the premises, resulting in them being without a place for worship. The brethren would, however, not be discouraged, and so they continued to carry out evangelism activities in the area by doing house to house visits. God saw the need and provided a widow who leased to the Church a plot of land in Sunbury, on which the present structure now stands.
Deacon Donovan Sterling provides local leadership for the group in Sunbury, who continues to spread the good news of salvation, with oversight provided by Pastor Dennis Wright.
