The New Ground Assembly, located Clarendon, Jamaica West Indies, came into existence in the early 1970s, after brethren from Headquarters held a street meeting in Summerfield, Clarendon.  

The Rumble sisters visited the meeting and were blessed. Among other things, they admired the uniform worn by the sisters of the church. At the end of the service, they requested that studies be held with them.  The invitation was accepted and shortly after, the church visited their home one Sabbath and had discussions with them on how God should be served.  During the discussions, the sisters invited the brethren to continue to worship at their house, this they did for some time. 

During the period, the Rumble sisters became convicted of the seriousness of the observance of the Sabbath. This conviction came after it was revealed (through the Spirit by someone from the visiting team) one Sabbath, that a member of the New Ground group had been engaged in activities (including the sweeping of the yard that Sabbath morning). The visiting team advised them that these activities were inconsistent with Sabbath observance and should be discontinued. 

After moving from the Rumbles’ house the Church was relocated to Alexandria in the same Parish for a short time. Sometime afterward, as the need arose for an alternate place of worship, the Coles facilitated the Church, firstly on a plot of their land and later in their house, where they remained for three years, until Mr Gladstone Burrell donated a plot of land where the church is now located.  

Since then, the Church which began with five members, and was often referred to as the “Family Church” (as the people who attended were in fact from one family), has grown appreciably as souls continue to be born for God’s Kingdom.
