Assemblies
Great Pond
The Great Pond Assembly in St. Ann, Jamaica began when Elder Harold Peart, upon receiving a call from God to a greater light, left his former place of worship along with his family and the Gilmore family and began holding prayer meetings at the Gilmores’ home.
The number grew until it became necessary to relocate to the Pearts’ residence and later to a temporary structure on land made available by Deacon Gilmore, where they continued to worship.
Of interest, is the experience of Sister B. Gilmore, to whom it was revealed in a vision (while she was yet a member of another assembly) that the church that she should attend had sisters who wore white, long-sleeved, pleated dress, jippi-jappa hat and white shoes. She reported to her Bishop what the Lord had shown her, and he advised that God was not speaking of the outward adornment but of the heart. Like Mary, she pondered and questioned, “could God really be speaking of my heart?” So, she prayed to God who assured her that He would make it plain in His own time. This He did.
Having the desire to be affiliated with a body of people who were zealous about the work of the Lord, Elder Peart and the little flock prayed, after which God allowed him to learn of the Seventh Day Church of God (Reformed) in Kingston where he contacted the Leader, Pastor H.J. Waugh. In September 1963, Pastor Waugh responded favorably and officially organized the Church, appointing Elder Peart as the Leader of the group that numbered fifteen (15) at the time.
In 1967, the Church moved to its own premises where a temporary structure was erected in three (3) months and dedicated on July 16 of the same year. Seven (7) souls were added to the number. In 1980 the construction of the present structure began and in September 1990, the Church was dedicated.
As the Church grew, many signs and wonders attended the services. In one instance the Church was called to pray for an individual who had a difficult pregnancy, which could have resulted in her death. But after ministering to her using consecrated olive and water, she delivered her baby whom the doctor pronounced to have been dead for three days.
As the Church continues to seek souls for God’s Kingdom, she remains confident that the God who had begun this good work, will complete it if they trust and faithfully serve Him.
Under the leadership of Pastor Felix Peart, the Church has been involved in missionary work including the servicing of other branches.
There have been spiritual fights, but God has granted us victories.
