Assemblies
Springvale
The Springvale Assembly located in St Catherine, Jamaica West Indies, began in 1988 when Deaconess Kelly, who after getting married migrated from Roadside to Springvale to live with her husband. While in Springvale, she asked of Overseer, Pastor Hixroy Joseph Waugh, that a branch of the church be established in that community.
The request was granted in the same year, when Pastor Waugh sent three stalwarts – Pastor George Baker, Evangelist Allan Smith, and Sister Merlene Dawson (now Deaconess Hare) – to initiate the work. Meetings were held in the Kelly’s residence for approximately one year; thereafter, as the numbers increased, the need for a Sanctuary became evident.
Nevertheless, the group continued to hold worship services at different locations in the Community.
At one of the Street Meetings, Pastor Dellzer McKoy, while preaching, was led to ask a man in the crowd, “Where is the house you’ve built for the Lord?” The utterance was prophetic as it turned out that the man (Mr Redwood), to whom the question was directed, had lands at his disposal, which he later offered to lease to the church.
This offer was accepted and with hard work and much effort, a building was erected in 1989. Worship services continued in this building until the expiration of the lease in 2003, after which the church acquired land of its own on which the current sanctuary now stands.
Despite the challenges faced over the years, the Springvale Assembly continues to do the work of preparing souls for the Kingdom of God under the Leadership of Assistant Overseer Pastor Gershom Baxter.
To God be the Glory!
